Cook-in-the-Kitchen Gluten-Free Soups are Recommended for America's Three Million Celiac Disease Sufferers in Gluten-Free Diet: A Comprehensive Resource Guide.
Cook-in-the-Kitchen, a popular Upper Valley company specializing in all-natural, preservative free foods will be featured in the newest edition of the bestselling book Gluten-Free Diet: A Comprehensive Resource Guide by Shelley Case, B. Sc., RD. Besides Cook-in-the-Kitchen's line of gluten-free soups, the book describes over 3,100 gluten-free products from more than 270 companies in the US, Canada and around the world. Viewed as the definitive gluten-free guide, numerous celiac health experts recommend their patients to use Case's book, available on her website www.glutenfreediet.ca.
Cook-in-the-Kitchen, a family-owned and operated business located in the quiet village of White River Junction, Vermont, also recently appeared in Gluten Free Living Magazine, a great resource for those with gluten intolerance. Despite the recent popularity of gluten-free diets among Hollywood celebrities, Case says "It's a myth that everyone should be on a gluten-free diet. Just because alternative health practitioners, personal trainers and celebrities are jumping on the gluten-free bandwagon, doesn't mean it is right for everyone."
A strict, lifelong gluten-free diet (meaning no wheat, rye or barley) is the only known treatment for celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that affects more than 3 million Americans. The disease can cause bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea and/or constipation, fatigue, bone or joint pain, mouth ulcers, migraines, irritability or depression. Celiac disease is diagnosed by a blood test and small intestinal biopsy.
Cook-in-the-Kitchen Launches New E-Commerce Efforts to Market Traditional Foods
This month Cook-in-the-Kitchen also launched their new e-commerce website. This spring, they signed Trillium Digital Internet Design & Strategy to retool their existing web presence and ramp up their SEO/SEM efforts. Trillium partner Melissa Snyder says "e-commerce is so important to retailers today because it drives sales results in the form of traffic, awareness and client engagement." The new web site includes a new recipe section and a news section for updates about gluten-free foods and other items the company carries.
Goodwin says "I wanted to redo the web site to be more current and to try to compete with fellow producers of fine mixes. It's my hope that the web site will grow the retail side of the company and to try to tap the web's ability to reach and better serve wholesale clients." Future plans will include further experimentation with different products and even bulk ingredients as they continue to develop foods based on customer requests and industry trends.
About Cook-in-the-Kitchen
Cook-in-the-Kitchen was created more than 20 years ago by a couple in Post Mills, Vermont. It all started with a few pancake mixes but has grown to be a favorite in country stores, major grocery chains and B&Bs across New England. Cook-in-the-Kitchen products are now nationally distributed, but remain primarily a specialty food for New England.
After a career in the restaurant business Tim Goodwin and his wife Naomi bought Cook-in-the-Kitchen in 2007. Tim says "It has been a wonderful feeling to have a line that was created with great care. Our mixes are made in small batches with only all-natural, preservative-free ingredients. We have also kept the "just add water" convenience without compromising flavor."
In addition to a new line of Vermont maple syrup, honey and locally handcrafted soup bowls, some of Cook-in-the-Kitchen's newest products include Newman's Own Organic and a Fair Trade Coffee from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. Cook-in-the-Kitchen is a member of The Vermont Specialty Food Association and The Vermont Grocers Association.
